What we do and how we do it

About us

Our goals are to live a country where well-trained socialised dogs are welcome do enjoy life wherever their humans go. We aim to do this by creating a community of people and their dogs to show what is possible.

We used only evidence-based science behavioural research. We follow the proven techniques and strategies designed by Sirius Dog Training Academy as developed by Dr Ian Dunbar.

Effective dog training begins with giving dogs the freedom to choose and rewarding the behaviour we want and ignoring the ones we don’t. We believe wholeheartly this type of conditioning that this is the simplest way to train for both humans and your dog.

We tailor our classes and location to suit every situation. These include run a variety of classes, one-to-one sessions, and board and train in order to suit every learning human style and situation. We understand the need to adapt the training depending on the needs of each person and dog. In order to make dog training accessible to everyone we run a number of pop-up, pay as you go training sessions in towns, beaches and parks. We also organise group (pack) walks and hikes to help with socialisation with humans and dogs. These are updated on our social media regularly and are available to all current and past clients who have completed any our classes or programmes. dog owners that advocate for dogs

How We Started

LK Dog Training was inspired by my two dogs, Louie and Kelvin, who are also an essential part of my training team. Both are confident, well-socialised dogs who are comfortable around even the most nervous of dogs. I often use them during training sessions to help clients better understand canine communication and body language. I've been an animal lover for as long as I can remember—there was never a time in my childhood when I didn’t long for a dog of my own. That passion led me to study Animal Care and earn a degree in Wildlife Biology. I later completed professional dog training certification through Dr. Ian Dunbar’s Sirius Dog Training program. My journey into dog training began through fostering. Many dogs came into my care over the years, but a few truly shaped my path. Helping frightened, injured dogs learn to trust again—and eventually thrive—was life-changing. Being able to communicate with another species, especially one in need, filled me with purpose and joy. Today, as a professional dog trainer, I am deeply committed to helping people better understand animal behaviour and strengthen their bond with their dogs. Watching those relationships grow through trust and clear communication is incredibly rewarding—and I feel lucky to be part of that journey every day.

Louie

Louie is a people-loving dog who sometimes needs a gentle reminder that not everyone is here just to shower him with attention. Deeply loyal by nature, he plays a key role in my work as an assessment dog for training clients. I’ve lost count of how many clients have found their way to me after stopping to comment on how “well-behaved” he is. Louie’s calm and patient demeanour is no accident—he’s learned that this kind of energy earns him everything he desires in life: attention, affection, and of course, cuddles (though he’d likely insist he never gets quite enough)

Kelvin

Kelvin was born almost completely blind, and through him, I’ve gained a profound understanding of how dogs perceive and navigate the world. I rescued him at five months old and, for the first year, I was overly protective—assuming his condition was a major limitation. Over time, I came to realise that it wasn’t his lack of sight holding him back, but the limitations I was unconsciously placing on him. Kelvin has taught me the importance of trusting a dog’s natural resilience and adaptability. He’s shown me how deeply dogs rely on their other senses, especially smell, to understand their environment. I also learned a vital lesson: excessive sympathy for an individual’s challenges can sometimes hinder their growth and learning. Our communication is something we work on every day. While far from perfect—as any interspecies communication naturally is—it’s a partnership built on trust and mutual understanding. Kelvin brings a calm, gently assertive energy, particularly with puppies, and has a unique, almost maternal way of helping them explore and learn at their own pace.
